Technical Knowledge & History: The Foundation of Our Success

Scientific Control Laboratories Eightieth Anniversary Logo

Based in Chicago, Illinois, SCL began its service in 1938 when founder Scott Modjeska combined his wide knowledge of electroplating with a steadfast belief that plating control, aka “scientific control” would provide a higher level of plating quality. From its fledgling beginnings, the company grew into a leader of industrial testing and engineering services for numerous manufacturing markets nationwide.

From plating evaluation and testing to ensure wear and corrosion resistance, to waste water analysis that keep companies compliant with EPA and OSHA, to turn-key training programs that offer education on the latest environmental health and safety regulations, accuracy has—and always will be—the foundation of our success.

Five primary business segments comprise Scientific Control Laboratories

  1. Laboratory Testing Services
  2. Environmental Assessments
  3. Health & Safety Monitoring
  4. Plating Evaluation
  5. On Site Training

Scientific Control Laboratories employ a talented team of chemical and environmental engineers, metallurgists, and environmental scientists. Because we understand the challenges of manufacturing, we know that reliable manufacturing solutions are based on expert decision making supported by accurate materials data. Our process systems are designed to provide accurate data collection to support this. Our laboratories hold numerous accreditations including: ISO17025, A2LA, NELAC, NADCAP, WDNR and TCEQ, to mention a few. These third-party accreditations give our clients confidence that their project will receive quality testing results that conform to national and international standards.

Throughout the years, Scientific Control Laboratories training programs have become a growing area of service. These programs provide practical and site-specific information, and are conducted by personnel who are recognized experts in their various field.

From testing to training, we pride ourselves in the professional services we offer: services that help manufacturers identify inefficient production methods or inadequate training that cause costly threats to their business.

Simply stated: Our mission is to help manufacturers boost quality, decrease liability and increase profits.
