Scientific Control Laboratories has served the training needs of our clients for over 50 years.Our training personnel are industry recognized experts with hands on knowledge and the formal training necessary to provide both practical and theoretical information in a manner that is easy to understand by the average metal finishing worker with limited educational experience. Most any training needs can be accommodated in a formal classroom setting, informal meeting, or on convenient videotapes that can be custom edited for repetitive training proposes. Safety Training Top
SCL has multiple safety training programs for complying with the OSHA standards. Our OSHA-authorized trainers can provide training on the following topics:

First Responder Training Top
This training program is intended to provide compliance with both RCRA and OSHA requirements for annual training of personnel that work with hazardous wastes and may be involved with a clean-up of a hazardous spill. Specifically covered are:
  • Proper Storage and Handling Of Hazardous Wastes/Chemicals
  • Review of Spill Containment/Countermeasure Plan

The Basics of Waste Water Treatment/Class K Exam Preparation Top
In this training program, the trainee is prepared for the Illinois "Class K" license examination for a typical wastewater treatment system used in treating the effluent from a metal finishing operation. Included topics:
  • Segregation of Wastewater
  • Cyanide Oxidation
  • Chromium Reduction
  • pH Adjustment/Flocculation
  • Clarification Polishing Filters
  • Troubleshooting
  • Basic Math For Wastewater Treatment Operators
Regulatory Overview Top
This training program is for managers and workers who need to be informed on regulations that the average metal finisher needs to comply with. Covered in this overview are:
  • RCRA
  • SARA
  • EPCRA
  • Clean Air Act
  • Clean Water Act
  • OSHA
  • Local Requirments
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Top
This training program covers the RCRA regulations and worker and management responsibilities under the RCRA regulations for Conditionally Exempt (CE), Small Quantity Generators (SQG) and Large Quantity Generators (LQG).
Note: This training is mandated annually for LQG's.
Salt Spray Exposure Testing per ASTM B-117 Top
This training program provides on-site, hands on training of the salt fog test as per ASTM B-117. Included in the training is:
  • Routine Maintenance of the Test Chamber
  • Preparing Samples
  • Evaluating Samples
Custom In-House Training Programs Top
We can create customized training packages dealing with most any metal finishing related topic, from plating to painting and powdercoating. Training Packages include text, slides and overheads and video footage to make training a pleasant experience. Examples of recently produced programs along with a partial customer list are enclosed.
Pollution Prevention Top
This training program provides management with the specifics of a workable pollution prevention program. It also covers the sources of pollution and methods of prevention. Specific Topics:

Introduction to Electroplating Top
This is a 20 hour course originally offered as a senior level metallurgy course, taught at Illinois Institute of Technology. Covered are the basics in making calculations, preparing substrates for plating and specific electroplating processes including:

  • Chromium Plating
  • Gold Plating
  • Electroless Plating
  • Alloy Plating
  • Hydrogen Stress Cracking

Note: This course is not intended to be a substitute for the AESF Intensive Training in Electroplating Course. It may not completely prepare a student for the CEF examination. It does cover each of the above topics in detail.
OSHA Voluntary Safety & Health Program Top
This training program allows companies to train their management and safety officers in what OSHA regulations their facility must comply with and arms them with the materials to achieve compliance.
8-hour, 24-hour Voluntary Safety & Health Program Top
Hard Chromium Plating Course Top
This is an eight hour course providing details of hard chromium plating, including, surface preparation, repair methods, plating principles, fixturing, and post plate finishing/grinding.
